Walter Adams, the owner of Regal Cleaning in Amarillo, Texas, has always possessed an entrepreneurial spirit. His journey into the business world took a decisive turn in August 2021 when he launched Regal Cleaning, a commercial cleaning service specializing in office and medical spaces.

With a background in nursing, Walter brought a unique perspective to the cleaning industry, fully aware of the critical role cleanliness plays, especially in healthcare settings. His medical experience deeply shaped his approach to building a business that prioritizes quality, reliability, and professionalism.

The idea for Regal Cleaning emerged from a strategic exploration of market opportunities

This insight spurred him to take the leap and establish Regal Cleaning, initially focusing on smaller contracts. However, the business quickly gained momentum, thanks to Walter’s commitment to delivering exceptional service and his ability to forge strong relationships within the community.

“I’m a people person, so I love that it brings me into contact with people from all walks of life, both customers and employees,” Walter said. “Some might see me as a disruptor because Regal Cleaning is one of the highest-paying companies in the industry. Cleaning is honest work, but for years the pay hasn’t reflected that. I’m proud to bring attention to the fact that it’s a skilled trade. I also mentor young people, showing them that there are well-paying jobs outside the spotlight, like cleaning or plumbing.”

"You don’t need to be an influencer to make good money.”

Regal Cleaning’s journey reached a significant milestone when the company secured a three-year contract with Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo. This contract, the largest Regal Cleaning has undertaken to date, marked a turning point for the business.

For Walter, this achievement was more than just a financial milestone; it was a testament to the hard work, dedication, and strategic planning that had gone into building his company.

“Securing this contract meant a lot on multiple levels,” Walter said. “First, it provided more work for my employees, which translates to a financial boost for their families. It also validated our business.”

"Being chosen over more established companies was a big credibility boost. Most of our clients come to us through word of mouth, based on the quality of our work. This contract will help us take the business to the next level financially.”

As Regal Cleaning grew, so did Walter’s need for support in navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship. His connection with the Entrepreneurship Team at Communities Unlimited (CU) became a crucial resource.

Walter first met Katy Parrish, a Management Consultant from CU, at the EforAll event in May, hosted by Square Mile Community Development. During the event, Walter had the chance to learn about CU’s various programs, with Katy’s panel discussion catching his interest.

Among the many services offered by CU, their expertise in contract management stood out to Walter.

Since then, he has worked closely with Katy to deepen his understanding of the business side of his operations.

With the Northwest Texas Hospital contract secured, Katy has been instrumental in helping Walter grasp key business concepts such as net 45 payment schedules and the purpose of discounts. She is now assisting him with financial projections and cash flow management to ensure the contract is executed smoothly and all logistical details are well-managed.

Katy, who has enjoyed working with Walter, sees great potential in his business.

“Walter’s nursing background clearly shows in his passion for the medical field, which is why I think a medical contract is perfect for him,” Katy said. “He’s always focused on delivering high-quality service, and he wants to be known as the cleaning crew you can trust.”

"It’s great to see his hard work paying off.”

As part of his preparation for fulfilling the new contract, Walter is seeking a working capital loan. Katy connected him with CU’s Lending Team to help secure the necessary funds.

Reflecting on his path to this point, Walter shared, “Coming from a community with a lot of crime and drugs — something I was once involved in — I’ve been through it all. I’ve been arrested, battled addiction, and come out the other side.”

"Every success I achieve is a testament to what’s possible, showing that you can overcome anything.”
