In partnership with the King Foundation and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, Communities Unlimited (CU) has launched the “Our Delta” Home Improvement Loan Program to address a critical lending gap for residents across 31 counties in Eastern and Southern Arkansas. Serving homeowners in Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Chicot, Clay, Cleveland, Columbia, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Desha, Drew, Greene, Hempstead, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Lincoln, Little River, Miller, Mississippi, Monroe, Nevada, Ouachita, Phillips, Poinsett, Prairie, St. Francis, Union, and Woodruff counties, this initiative strategically blends resources from CU’s Lending and Housing Teams to provide essential funding for home repairs and improvements.

The “Our Delta” program offers low-interest loans of $3,500, with the opportunity to apply for additional funds after 12 consecutive on-time monthly payments. These loans help eligible residents cover vital home repairs, including leaking roofs, damaged flooring, and outdated HVAC systems, ensuring safer and more stable housing for families across the region.

By providing affordable financing, the program helps residents create safe, comfortable living conditions and preserves the value of their homes.

“We want to thank the King Foundation for investing $1 million and FHLB-Dallas for the $92,500 grant to Communities Unlimited, making the launch of the “Our Delta” Home Improvement Loan Program possible,” said Michael Rivera, CU’s Director of Lending. “Access to quality housing and well-maintained homes is a key factor in fostering thriving communities. “Our Delta” is designed to meet the specific needs of families in these counties, helping them maintain their homes and improve their living conditions.”

This initiative comes at a critical time, as many homes in Eastern and Southern Arkansas suffer from aging infrastructure and deferred maintenance. Homeowners in these areas often lack the financial resources or credit history needed to secure loans for essential repairs. CU is bridging this gap by providing affordable financing options to those who need them most.

Looking ahead, the program will soon expand to additional Delta counties, ensuring even more homeowners can access the support they need.

“As homes age, maintenance and repairs become increasingly expensive,” said Audra Butler, CU’s Area Director of Housing. “Many of our neighbors lack emergency savings and are forced to either live in unsafe conditions or turn to high-interest, predatory loans. Our Delta provides a safe and affordable alternative for these families.”
