Summary of Position  |

CU’s Community Sustainability work takes an asset-based approach but also clearly assesses a community’s needs. The team has used a community assessment tool, leadership development curriculum and individualized technical assistance to develop diverse leadership teams that nurture new entrepreneurial opportunities in 11 communities with some 20 additional communities in the pipeline. The Community Sustainability work has been funded by the USDA Rural Community Development Initiative grants, USDA Rural Business Development Grants, private philanthropy and through contracts with communities.

The Director of Community Sustainability must be a highly collaborative leader – with external and internal stakeholders, be responsive to partners, customers, and the other members of the CU staff to identify unmet needs in our service area and pilot and implement new ways of supporting communities and connecting them to resources.

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Community Sustainability manages all aspects of CU’s Community Sustainability work including:

  • Evaluating and selecting potential communities for long-term engagements
  • Developing local leadership teams
  • Identifying partners and resources, within CU and externally, to support the work
  • Managing community sustainability projects
  • Training
  • Supervision of a small team
  • Developing and managing the program budget of approximately $600K.

Summary of Position  |

The Human Resource Coordinator aids with and facilitates the administration of all HR processes at all locations, working with expert HR and Affirmative Action Advisors that provide direction on compliance related decisions. The primary HR function of the Coordinator is to support recruitment/hiring, facilitate the introduction of new staff to the organization, serving as that central point of contact to support a smooth transition and supporting administrative and compliance tasks.  The role includes multiple administrative functions with the HRIS and in other systems (e.g. motor vehicle monitoring system, assignment of training resource licenses). This role provides administrative support to the CEO and serves as the liaison between the CEO and the external HR/AA/Compensation experts.

Requirements  | 

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. An emphasis in management, human resource development, human resource management, organizational development, workforce development, training and development or related field is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to client sites when conditions allow and as necessary.
  • Three (3) years work experience in a position dealing directly with internal and or external customers is required. 
  • Four (4)  years experience that includes human resources is required. Preference may be given for experience in ADP Workforce Now, Certification as a Human Resource Specialist in ADP Workforce Now, PHR/SHRM-CP or similar certification.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software including some combination of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook is required. Experience with Microsoft365 cloud-based SharePoint and/or TEAMs is required. Experience with Microsoft 365 cloud-based SharePoint and/or TEAMs may be given preference.

The incumbent should be passionate about social and economic justice, possess strong financial and management skills, and be excited to work in a team environment serving entrepreneurs that want to start successful businesses or need help to maintain/expand their current business and need help to overcome barriers to their success including limited credit history, limited access to financial/managerial training or education, and lack access to traditional financing options.

Requirements  | 

  • Master’s degree is required, with strong preference for a MBA or a Masters in Social Entrepreneurship.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to client sites when conditions allow and as necessary.
  • 3 years related work experience is required. Business ownership experience preferred.
  • 2 years of experience working with the Microsoft Office suite of software including some combination of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook is required. Experience with Microsoft365 cloud-based SharePoint and/or TEAMs is preferred. Experience working with Quickbooks is preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience building trust-based relationships with CU’s target client audience, which includes underserved entrepreneurs (e.g. those with English as a second language, operating small-businesses in persistent poverty communities, with limited financial resources, and including veteran, woman, minority and disabled small business owners).

Summary of Position  |

The Training Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with the entrepreneurship team to develop topics and content for trainings that will be delivered as workshops, webinars, or for the LMS system. Other responsibilities include surveying training participants, developing and updating course quizzes for the LMS, providing customer service to those using the LMS, making recommendations on improvements to trainings, and assisting with training facilitation when needed.

Education/Certification Requirements  | 

This position requires satisfaction of one of the following options for education and certification. All requirements in the option must be satisfied.

Option 1. Bachelor’s degree in instructional system design or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience facilitating training to adults in the workplace. Experience should include facilitation of training in a classroom setting and in a virtual setting. Experience developing and managing content for a Learning Management System is preferred. Preference may be given for experience facilitating training to entrepreneurs and small business owners. Must have a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project communities. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A.

Option 2. A minimum of 3 years of experience in providing direct technical assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners or owning and operating a small business. A minimum of 3 of experience developing curriculum and facilitating training in a virtual environment that includes self-paced/self-study; live webinar; recorded webinar; and interactive exercises. Experience developing and managing content for a Learning Management System is preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project communities. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A.

Experience/Skills Requirements  | 

  • Four (4) years progressively responsible work experience.
  • Experience that demonstrates familiarity with adult learning, virtual learning methods, training needs assessment, curriculum design and training facilitation is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software including some combination of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook is required. Experience with Microsoft365 cloud-based SharePoint and/or TEAMs is preferred. Experience working with Quickbooks is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft LMS365 may be given preference.

Summary of Position  |

The Program Coordinator for entrepreneurship is responsible for coordination with management consultants on client metrics and data collection, evaluation and reporting on the data collected, coordination and management of client’s referred to entrepreneurship team for services, client customer service, follow-up on client story collection, and assist the Director of Entrepreneurship in coordination and implementation of a quality control system. Additional responsibilities could include assisting in the development of new federal, state, and/or private grants; management of one or more entrepreneurship team grants or contracts, grant writing and reporting.

Position Requirements  | 

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. Preference is given for a degree in business, management, finance, accounting or closely related field.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A.
  • Four (4) years work experience is required. Prior business ownership experience is preferred.
  • Experience that demonstrates familiarity with adult learning, virtual learning methods, training needs assessment, curriculum design and training facilitation is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software including some combination of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook is required. Experience with Microsoft365 cloud-based SharePoint and/or TEAMs is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and be willing to travel throughout CU’s target market as conditions allow for travel and as needed for meetings, conferences or other irregular events.
