LaTeasha Davis knows firsthand the struggles of overcoming a speech delay. Growing up in West Memphis, Arkansas, she experienced the frustration of limited access to therapy services. Now, through her business, Therapeutic Focus, she has spent the last decade turning her childhood challenges into a lifeline for countless children in her community.

Since 2011, Therapeutic Focus has become a ray of hope, offering physical, occupational, and speech therapy to adolescents in need. Davis’ transformation from a child seeking help to a thriving entrepreneur showcases her resilience and dedication to supporting her community.

As a child, Davis found it difficult to access the services she needed due to the limited resources in her geographic location. Her grandmother, a nurse, recognized the urgency of early assistance and found a speech therapist who provided free services for five years.

This act of kindness and the profound effect it had on Davis’s life motivated her to pursue a career in occupational therapy. After gaining experience in various states, she recognized the need for these services in her hometown and decided to return to West Memphis to make a difference.

Despite having no prior business experience, Davis was determined to create a facility that would provide therapy services to children in her community. Therapeutic Focus began modestly but soon became a critical resource for children in West Memphis and surrounding areas.

The facility offers in-house client meetings, virtual services, and in-school therapy, ensuring accessibility for all clients. With approximately 27 employees, the organization has grown significantly over the past decade.

From the beginning, Davis sought guidance from Communities Unlimited (CU). CU helped her develop a business plan and navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship.

However, it was during the COVID-19 pandemic that Davis’ need for strategic growth and sustainability became apparent. She turned to the Entrepreneurship Team at CU again and Management Consultant Tracy Cook for assistance in scaling her business amidst unprecedented challenges.

Therapeutic Focus faced rapid growth, leading to increased labor hours and sales from new contracts. This growth highlighted the need for a robust organizational structure to manage the expanding operations efficiently. Cook’s engagement with Therapeutic Focus focused on addressing these challenges through financial planning and strategic organizational development.

Cook conducted a thorough assessment of the labor costs and sales performance, creating financial projections that mapped out the company’s growth trajectory from 2021 to 2023. They identified the need for additional supervisory roles to manage the increasing flow of information and operations within the organization. The result was a comprehensive strategic plan, profitability analysis, and an organizational chart that introduced new supervisory layers.

The impact of CU’s consulting services on Therapeutic Focus has been profound. In 2023, the company earned nearly a million dollars in sales, a significant increase from almost $600,000 in 2022. This growth netted a profit of $70,000, a remarkable turnaround from the previous year’s net loss of $190,000.

Davis attributes this success to her newfound focus on financial metrics and strategic management. She acknowledged the vital role that CU played in her business’s growth.

"Tracy has been phenomenal. Despite my science background, I've always struggled with numbers. Tracy showed me that my numbers tell a story and taught me to use them to make informed decisions. Thanks to him, I now understand my business's financial health and can plan for growth confidently."

Davis remains committed to working with CU as she continues to expand Therapeutic Focus. She recognizes the importance of utilizing available resources and encourages other entrepreneurs in the Delta region to seek out CU’s services.

“LaTeasha has been an exceptional client,” Cook said. “She has not only supported her family through Therapeutic Focus but also her community. LaTeasha has become an economic pillar in West Memphis, Arkansas.”

Davis’ vision for Therapeutic Focus knows no bounds.

"I'm incredibly grateful for your services — without them, I wouldn't have achieved this scale of growth. Now, with CU's help, the sky's the limit. I've shattered my glass ceiling and can make informed decisions to keep expanding."
